The Governor of Sabaragamuwa Province, Hon. Chamipa Janaki Rajaratne, in appreciation of the digitalization process of Kolonna Pradeshiya Sabha, declared it as the first model electronic (digital) local government institution in the Sabaragamuwa Province at the digitalization program held at Kolonna Pradeshiya Sabha. In parallel with this program, a program to digitize waste management activities and plant betel trees for model products instead of polythene/plastic was initiated.
For the success of this program, the Ministry of Digital Economy and the Information and Communication Technology Agency of Sri Lanka/Information and Communication Technology Unit of the Sabaragamuwa Provincial Chief Secretariat, Sabaragamuwa Local Government Department provided immense support in the form of digital public service applications, online payments, advice and guidance.
The program was attended by the Governor of Sabaragamuwa Province, Hon. Champa Janaki Rajaratne, Chief Secretary, Mrs. E.K. Sunitha, Secretary to the Principal Ministry, Mrs. S.P.K. Bodhimanna, Assistant Secretary, Mr. W.R.S. Weerasekara, Commissioner of Local Government, Mr. L.M.P.W. Bandara, Assistant Commissioner of Local Government, Mr. D.M.J.U. Dharmaratne, Director of Planning (Deputy Chief Secretary) Samanthilaka, Hon. Chairman of Kolonna Pradeshiya Sabha, Mr. K.C. Sampath Gunasinghe, MPs, Hon. Chairman of Embilipitiya Urban Council, Mr. Gamini Keerthilal, Hon. Chairman of Embilipitiya Pradeshiya Sabha, Mr. Dr. Wasantha Kumarasiri and a large group of officials from government institutions.
