Message from the Honorable Chairman

As a local government institution that is advancing through digitalization by adopting modern technology, my main objective as the head of the local government institution is to facilitate the efficient and transparent fulfillment of the public service needs of the people in the area. As an effort to achieve that objective, I believe that the official website of the Kolonna Pradeshiya Sabha will be of great help in completing service applications, making payments and finding out information about the services provided by the institution from home.

Honorable Secretary’s message

As an administrative officer, it is my responsibility as an administrative officer to lead the staff to implement the decisions taken by the General Assembly in order to provide their comfort, convenience and welfare by focusing on the public health, public utility services and public roads of the people of Kolonna  Pradeshiya Sabha area. Responsibility.
For that, my aim is to fulfill public needs easily and efficiently by using modern technology and to maintain good communication with the people.

Establishment of Kolonna Pradeshiya Sabha

From 1936 to 1959 as a village functional council, from 1960 to 1981 as a village council and from 1982 to 1987 as a sub-office of the development council, this local government body was established in 1988 under the name of Kolonna Pradeshiya Sabha in accordance with the Local Council Act No. 15 of 1987.
The established Kolonna Pradeshiya Sabha is bounded by Godakawela Divisional Secretariat Division to the north, Embilipitiya Divisional Secretariat Division to the east, Hambantota Divisional Secretariat Division to the south and Maimwa District to the south of Ratnapura District. The area has an area of 204 square kilometers and a population of 53,548 consisting of Sinhalese, Tamil, Muslim and other ethnic groups. Agriculture can be introduced as the main livelihood of the people in the jurisdiction.

Statement of Purpose of Kolonna Pradeshiya Sabha

The basic role is to carry out the activities related to the protection and promotion of all the facilities of public health, public utility services and public roads of the Kolonna Pradeshiya Sabha jurisdiction and to protect and promote all the facilities of the people’s comfort, convenience and welfare.

1. Implementation of the provisions of the written rules assigned under the Local Council Act.

2. Measures to prevent outbreaks of communicable diseases and epidemics.

3. Running free Ayureda dispensaries.

4. Regulation and control of dangerous and unpleasant trades.

5. Establishing quality control of food items put up for sale.

6. Construction and maintenance of highways, drains, footpaths, culverts, ditches etc.

7. Regularization and control of buildings and permanent constructions.

8. Establish and maintain public markets.

9. Street lighting.

10. Maintenance of cemeteries.

11. Maintenance of libraries.

12. Running Kindergartens and Early Childhood Education Services.

13. Establishing and maintaining playgrounds.

14. Enact by-laws required for various functions and implement them.

15. Protection and maintenance of environmental cleanliness.

16. To take necessary measures within the limits allowed by the Local Council Act for the welfare of the public.

17. Everyone aims to return the benefits of the tax paid by the people of the area to them as much as possible.
